After just one season as BSU’s starting quarterback, is already climbing school career leaderboards for completions (158, 9th), passing yardage (2,205, 6th) and touchdown passes (23, 5th)... Went 65 career pass attempts before throwing his first interception; threw just one interception in his first 113 career attempts. 2002 (So-RS): Put up one of the top five overall passing seasons in school history in first season as BSU’s starter... Completed 155 of 288 passes for 2,153 yards and 23 scores with a 136.02 passer rating; all numbers rank amongst top five on BSU’s all-time single-season leaderboards... 23 touchdown passes third-most in a single season in school history and one of just four 20-touchdown seasons on record... Became just the fourth BSU quarterback to throw for 2,000 yards in a season... In all games: sixth in the NSIC in passing (195.7) and total offense (212.5); fourth in the league, 25th in the nation in passing efficiency (136.02)... NSIC games only: sixth in passing (192.8), sixth in total offense (208.8), fifth in passing efficiency (133.8). Led BSU to 49 scoring chances in 137 drives started (43 TD, 4 FG, 2 missed FG)... Offenseaveraged 5.6 yards per play with Smith under center... Led team with 108 first downs earned (23 rush, 85 pass); 85 passing first downs went to 10 different receivers... Threw at least one touchdown pass in 10 of 11 games played. Smith’s 23 touchdown passes averaged 26.8 yards apiece with four covering more than 50 yards... 28.6 percent of Smith’s passing yardage (616 of 2,153) came on touchdown passes. 21-of-30, 232 yards, three touchdowns; 10 carries for 52 yards in first career start at MSUMankato (8/29); 232 yards passing were most ina season opener by any BSU quarterback since 1989, and his three touchdowns tied Ben Morie (1998) for the most by a BSU passer in a season opener in the Jeff Tesch era (since 1996)... 17- of-27, 234 yards, two touchdowns; 13 carries for 61 yards at Winona State (9/21)... 160 yards passing, three touchdowns; rushing touchdown vs Wayne State (9/28)... 17 completions on career-high 36 passing attempts, 303 yards, two touchdowns vs Northern State (10/5); first career 300-yard passing game... 15-of-28, 164 yards at Concordia-St. Paul (10/12); only game of season without a touchdown pass... 12-of-22, 259 yards, four touchdowns, no interceptions vs Southwest State (10/19)... 168 yards, three touchdowns; 27 rush yards in double-overtime win at MSU-Moorhead (10/26)... 155 yards, two touchdowns; one rushing touchdown at Minn.- Duluth (11/2).

2001 (So): Sat out as a redshirt.

2000 (Fr): 3-of-4 passing for 52 yards in three appearances as a backup quarterback... Also rushed for 35 yards on six carries. 3-of-4, 52 yards at Minot State (9/2)... Fourcarries, 24 yards rushing, with a long rush of 24 yards, vs UM-Morris (10/28).

High School: Lettered in football & basketball at O’Fallon Township High... Career passingleader... All-conference after junior and senior years... All-area, all-metro honorable mention.

Personal: Born Oct. 2, 1981... Son of Mark and Jaye Smith...
