Overview: Academic honor roll student each of the last two years who has been Clemson's starting punter the last two years...winner of the Solid Rock Award among Tiger kickers for 2004...has been consistent in his net punting in each of his two years, averaging over 36 yards from a net standpoint in each year...had 19 punts inside the 20 in 2003 and 18 inside the 20 in 2004...Clemson's starting punter in 23 of the last 24 games...had at least a 40-yard punting average in eight of the 11 games in 2004 after reaching a 40-yard average in five of 13 games as a freshman...has had his top net punting game against South Carolina each of his first two years; had a 43.8-yard net figure against South Carolina in 2003 and a 41.5 in 2004...will always be remembered for his outstanding performance against Tennessee in the Peach Bowl when he had a 41-yard net average and outpunted Volunteer All-American Dustin Colquitt...all-state selection in high school as a punter and placekicker...had a 36.5-yard net punting figure for his freshman year (2003), best by a Tiger since 1995.

2004: Eighth in the ACC in punting (40.2); he was 66th in the nation...had a net punting average of at least 40 yards in each of the last two games...all four of his punts were inside the 20 against South Carolina, a career high...had five punts over 50 yards; two of the four were at Texas A&M when he had a 43.1-yard figure...named Clemson's Scholar Athlete-of-the-Game by TBS against Texas A&M; also Clemson's top player by USAToday.com...had a career-best 45.0-yard average on eight punts against Maryland, including three inside the 20...allowed 14 return yards on 23 punts in the last four games...named Clemson's Special Teams Player-of-the-Game against Georgia Tech when he had a 41.2-yard average on six punts.

2003: A big reason Clemson improved in terms of net punting...did not have many "booming" punts, but was consistent from a net standpoint...had just two punts of 50 yards or more, but had 19 inside the 20 versus just nine touchbacks...had a 36.5 net figure for the year, up from Clemson's 28-yard average in 2002, and best by a Tiger since 1995 (Chris McInally - 38.5)...Clemson improved over 50 spots in the national stats in terms of net punting in 2003...had three punts each inside the 20 in the wins over #3 Florida State and South Carolina...had two punts inside the 20 against #6 Tennessee in a fine performance...had a gross average of 42.0 yards over five punts in the Peach Bowl...named Clemson's Special Teams Player-of-the-Game in the Peach Bowl after out-punting Volunteer All-American Dustin Colquitt...had 10 punts inside the 20 during the last four games...had a 43.8 average to go with three punts inside the 20 at South Carolina...had five games in which he had a punting average over 40 yards, including a season-high 44.3 average at Georgia Tech...had a season-long 50-yard boot at Georgia Tech and at Wake Forest...averaged 41.3 against #9 Georgia in the first game of the season...served as the holder from the Virginia game (October 11) through the end of the season; he took over those duties in an emergency situation, as regular holder Gene Pate broke his leg while running down the Hill prior to the Virginia game...Chason averaged 39.2 yards per punt in that game in addition to his holding duties; he was named Special Teams Player-of-the-Game by the Tiger coaches for that contest; also received that award for the Georgia Tech game, so he was three-time recipient...only Charlie Whitehurst also won three player-of-the-game awards from the Tiger coaches...only 13 of his 58 punts were returned for 120 yards; best in the ACC in terms of allowing punt return yards...selected as one of the top 10 scholar athletes on the team at the Peach Bowl.

Before Clemson: All-state placekicker and punter, and All-Region 8-AA punter...also all-state plackicker as a junior...connected on 6-9 field goals with a long of 52 yards and was 58-62 on extra points his senior season...punted 15 times, averaging 45.6 yards a kick...had 76 kickoffs with 39 touchbacks...made 9-10 field goals his junior season, which included a streak of eight straight makes...Gwinnett Touchdown Club First-Team All-Gwinnett County as a senior as a placekicker, and as a punter as a junior...Gwinnett Daily Post First-Team All-Gwinnett County...helped his team advance to the second round of the playoffs with an overall record of 11-1 his senior year...four-star prospect by TheInsiders.com...#11 kicker in nation by TheInsiders.com...a two-star prospect by Rivals100.com...16th-ranked kicking prospect in the nation by Rivals100.com...helped lead his soccer team to the 2000 Class A/AA state title as a sophomore...had a 3.5 GPA...National Honor Society member...coached by Jimmy Chupp at Greater Atlanta Christian School...chose Clemson over Michigan, Vanderbilt, and Virginia...
