Is expected to have a bigger impact on the team in 2005 than in any other season • another of the Gophers’ athletic receivers with good strength, speed and leaping ability • fundamental receiver with good hands who can also be a factor as a punt returner • bypassed a redshirt season and joined Laurence Maroney and Brandon Owens as the only true freshmen to play in 2003. 2004 • Sophomore Season: Switched jersey number from No. 33 to No. 84 • played in all 12 games • had one punt return for 32 yards in season opener vs. Toledo (9/4) • Academic All-Big Ten selection • participated in 88 plays • earned first letter. 2003 • Freshman Season: Appeared in nine games at wide receiver and on special teams • caught first career pass for 11 yards in the season opener vs. Tulsa (8/30) • returned two punts for a total of 11 yards against Louisiana-Lafayette (9/20) • scholar-athlete award winner • participated in 61 plays. High School: A 2003 graduate of Land O’ Lakes High School (Fla.) • high school coach was John Benedetto • was all-county his junior and senior seasons and all-area his senior year along with being named the county and area player of the year • also an all-state selection • totaled 109 receptions for 1,650 yards and 30 touchdowns for his career • had stellar senior season with 74 receptions for 1,250 yards and 23 touchdowns • intercepted two passes his senior season and eight for his career • also played basketball and baseball • was the team MVP for basketball • honor roll student all four years of high school.
