Expected to start at the mike linebacker position at Cal Poly, switching from the whip spot ... backed up Jordan Beck as a redshirt freshman.

2004 -- Started the final nine games and played in all 11 as a sophomore whip linebacker ... 88 total tackles, second on the team behind Beck ... 55 solo stops, including career-high 10 at Eastern Washington (13 total tackles, another career high) ... also had 10 tackles in both the Idaho State and Texas State games ... four sacks on the year ... forced three fumbles (27th in Division I-AA) and recovered two fumbles, returning one 39 yards in the Idaho State game ... intercepted a pass in both the Eastern Washington and Sacramento State games ... four pass breakups ... notched five solo tackles and two assisted stops in 2005 Spring Game.

2003 -- Played all 11 games as a redshirt freshman and recorded 24 total tackles, including 13 unassisted stops ... three tackles for lost yardage, including a sack against Idaho State ... notched season-high 10 tackles in the Idaho State game (six solo) ... also had eight tackles (five solo) at Akron ... one fumble recovery in the season finale against Humboldt State ... played in 2004 Spring Game and had four tackles, including two solo stops, and a fumble recovery.

2002 -- Redshirt.

High School -- Rushed for 1,089 yards and 17 touchdowns for head coach Jeff Uyesaka at Dos Pueblos High near Santa Barbara ... 19 receptions for 227 yards and returned eight kickoffs 133 yards ... defensively, he had 138 tackles and two interceptions as a linebacker ... also forced two fumbles ... Channel League Defensive MVP, All-CIF-Southern Section Division IV linebacker, All-Santa Barbara County and Los Angeles TimesÕ All-Section Team ... played in Santa Barbara County All-Star Game, earning defensive MVP honors ... led Chargers to 11-3 record and CIF-Southern Section Division IV championship game in 2001, losing to Cal Poly teammate Matt McCormick and San Luis Obispo High ... member of Honor Society ... also visited U.S. Naval Academy before choosing Cal Poly.

Personal -- Son of Steve and Cynthia Shotwell ... father played football at Cal from 1979-83 ... three brothers, Ryan, Troy and Matthew ... plays the guitar ... born March 29, 1984, in Santa Barbara, CA ... majors in political science.
