OUTLOOK: Bonner has been the consummate special teams contributor for the Razorbacks in the past two seasons. He consistently ranks among the leaders in tackles on Arkansas’ special teams units and has earned more playing time in a reserve role at linebacker as well. He will once again be a mainstay on special teams and see spot duty at sam linebacker. He is listed behind Freddie Fairchild and Chip Gregory on the pre-season depth chart at that position.
2006: He was one of Arkansas’ main contributors on special teams during his sophomore campaign appearing on several of the Razorbacks’ specialty units. He played in 11 of the Hogs’ 14 games missing only a three-game stretch against Vanderbilt, Alabama and Auburn after suffering a sternum fracture. He racked up seven tackles on the season, including six on special teams. He tallied at least one tackle in six of his 11 contests. – He earned one assisted tackle in the Hogs’ season opener against USC. He tallied his second tackle (assist) of the season against Utah State. He returned to the gridiron after a three-game hiatus to garner two assisted stops against Southeast Missouri State. Bonner picked up an assist in the Razorbacks’ non-conference win over Louisiana-Monroe. He earned his sixth assisted tackle of the season in Arkansas’ win over No. 13 Tennessee. He tallied his only solo tackle of the season in the SEC Championship Game against No. 4 and eventual national champion Florida.
2005: He played in seven games as a true freshman as a member of the UA special teams. He finished the season with four total tackles, including two solo and two assisted stops. Three of his four tackles came as a part of the Razorback special teams. – He saw his first collegiate action against Louisiana-Monroe on Oct. 8. He earned one assisted stop against the Indians. He played, but did not earn a tackle in conference games against Auburn, Georgia and South Carolina. He garnered an assisted tackle in the Razorbacks’ win over Ole Miss. He tallied the first two solo tackles of his career in the Hogs’ 44-10 win over Mississippi State. He logged time in the season finale against LSU, but was not credited with a tackle.
HIGH SCHOOL CAREER: He lettered three years as a tight end and a fullback as well as an outside linebacker for Coach Daryl Patton at Fayetteville High School. He was a team captain and was named all-state in 2004 and all-conference in 2003. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette named him to its All-Arkansas Junior Team in 2003. The Northwest Arkansas Times named him to the all-area team in 2004. He was also a member of the Arkansas Chapter of National Football College Hall of Fame Foundation Academic Team and was named to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette All-Arkansas Academic Team in 2004. KFSM-TV named him to its Super Team in 2003 and its Iron Man Team in 2004. He also earned two letters in baseball at FHS.
PERSONAL: Born April 24, 1987, he is the son of Mark and Karen Bonner. His father played football at Little Rock Parkview and at UA as a defensive end during the 1979 season. The eldest Bonner now serves as a team doctor for the Razorback football team.
He is enrolled in the College of Education and Health Professions and is majoring in kinesiology with an emphasis on teaching. Bonner was named to the Lon Farrell Academic Honor Roll in Fall 2005 and Spring 2007
